"I was out today planning to grab some Greek food and happened to drive into this plaza. I parked right in front of Somos Handcrafted Arepas in Shelton, CT, and as someone new to the area, I was so excited to discover a Venezuelan restaurant so close to home. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted by Alejandro, one of the owners, who took the time to answer all my questions and offer excellent menu suggestions. I ordered a fully loaded bowl along with tequeños, and everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were authentic, fresh, and incredibly satisfying. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was welcoming and vibrant, making the entire experience even better. If you’re looking for authentic Venezuelan food in Shelton, Somos Handcrafted Arepas is a must-visit. Amazing food, friendly owners, and a great vibe. I can’t wait to go back and try more items from their menu. Highly recommend supporting this local gem!"

"Man oh man what I wouldn’t give to have a spot like this back home. Arepas have always been one of my favorites but we don’t have anywhere near home to get them. When leaving Shelton after a conference I convinced my dad to give in a shot before the drive home and while he was apprehensive at first, Alejandro gave him the full run down, was really kind and informative, and eased him into his first Arepas. In between bites he muttered “why don’t we have these at home?”. Food was great, atmosphere fantastic, and was just generally an overall great vibe. While it’s obviously a fast casual spot, it is 100% worth checking out. Looking forward to coming back next time we are passing though!!"

"The cachapa (corn pancake) is our all-time favorite dish. Sometimes we will split an arpea and customize that to how we both like. We get the pulled chicken and the pork carnitas. All of the meats are tender and flavorful. All of the toppings are fresh like the black beans, avocado slices, pickled onions and corn. Great date spot in Shelton. Got to check them out and try one of everything on the menu! The ingredients are always fresh, and the flavor is always on-point. Xavier made our cachapas today, and they came out so delicious. "Stopped in because I was craving empanadas and ended up finding so much more than I expected. The gentleman working was incredibly kind and took the time to explain how everything works and walk me through each of the three main menu items. It was my first time trying arepas and WOW — absolutely heavenly. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and made with care. Can’t wait to come back!"

"Plenty of parking, knowledgably about them menu and options, and very friendly. Also, ample seating. Decided on stopping in and giving it a try. Place was very clean, and the customer service was good. I ordered the arepa and empanadas. Plenty of drink options for everyone. The only con was you cannot add guacamole to any dish not even for an upcharge."

"My coworkers and I are obsessed with this place. I’m extremely picky with rice bowls. A lot of places tend to lack flavor and/or freshness. I had low expectations for this place. But I was so impressed. The flavors are incredible. The meat isn’t dry at all. The toppings are so fresh. Every time I get their bowl I ALWAYS finish it. I don’t get bored or tired of it. Sosososoooo friken delicious. They’re also really sweet. Good atmosphere and clean. Highly recommend this place to anyone."

"This has very quickly become one of my favorite places to eat. It’s in a very competitive area with tons of restaurants but it really stands out from the rest. Everything I’ve ordered so far has been unbelievably good and I’ve tried the arepas, cachapas, tequeños, empanadas, plantains and their fresh guava juice. Both the carnitas and the carne mechada are full of flavor, super tender while still having a good bite to it and not dry in the slightest. Cooked perfectly. Everything is very reasonably priced as well. You can get a large amount of delicious food for under $20 easily which is getting rare nowadays. The owner talked with me for a bit today and he’s a very kind and polite person. The younger guy who helped me yesterday was also very nice and helpful so it’s nice to see a positive work culture and environment in the industry. I manage a restaurant myself and know how important it is to have a positive and healthy workplace so it’s great seeing it at a place with such good food. An absolute 10/10 must try spot especially if you’re in the area."
